ESL Instructor

The Literacy Center is seeking a part-time English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach ESL classes to adult learners using provided curriculum and lesson plans.
  • Create a classroom environment that promotes high student retention, courteous student-focused behavior, and a welcoming environment for all students.
  • Collect and maintain accurate student attendance.
  • Conduct student assessments and document results.
  • Monitor student goals and academic progress.
  • Develop and share regular progress reports.
  • Submit required documentation on a timely basis.
  • Actively participate in professional development and complete follow-up assignments with team members.
  • Participate in regular Team Meetings.
  • Identify and refer students to appropriate staff for tutoring, distance learning, counseling, and/or other programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Capabilities:

  • Thorough understanding of Adult Learning Theory and ability to apply Adult Learning principles in the classroom.
  • Employ a student-centered approach in teaching to help learners identify and progress toward their academic goals.
  • Effectively teach multi-level groups.
  • Work independently (self-directed) and as a team member.
  • Function in a flexible environment and readily adapt to change.
  • Demonstrate commitment to excellence in customer service.
  • Develop and maintain courteous and appropriate professional and student relationships.
  • Effectively deliver instruction to diverse learners or all ages, educational and linguistic backgrounds.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required
  • Experience teaching English to adult learners
  • Excellent computer skills

Computer Instructor

The Literacy Center is seeking a part-time Computer Instructor to teach one or more of the following topics: Introduction to Computers, Windows, Internet, Email, Typing, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and/or Zoom.

  • Teach computer classes to adult learners using provided curriculum and lesson plans.
  • Create a classroom environment that promotes high student retention, courteous student-focused behavior, and a welcoming environment for all students.
  • Collect and maintain accurate student attendance.
