At The Literacy Center, volunteer assignments depend on the needs of the agency, the needs of our students, and the skill sets that each volunteer brings. Below are the volunteer opportunities available for The Literacy Center. If you are interested in volunteering at the Center, please:

 

  1. Complete the Volunteer Application Form
  2. Read and sign the Volunteer Confidentiality Statement
  3. Read and sign the Volunteer Release and Waiver of Liability Form
  4. Send your completed Release and Waiver of Liability and Confidentiality Statement to the Director of Learning & Development
Adult Literacy | The Literacy Center

Available Volunteering Opportunities!

Event Volunteers help ensure the success of our events!  We need volunteers to help plan, develop, gather, and execute a couple of events throughout the year. The Job Description and Expectations for this role include:

  • Willingness to ‘get your hands dirty’ and pitch in wherever needed.
  • Good organizational skills are a plus!

Literacy Tutoring is one of the most rewarding volunteer experiences you can imagine. When you assist another individual in their journey – whether it’s increasing their math skills, working with them on reading comprehension, or teaching English as a second language – you enable that individual to take advantage of a new world of opportunities. The Job Description and Expectations for this role include:

  • Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills and an ability to relate comfortably with others.
  • Demonstrate patience, commitment, responsibility, organization, and flexibility.
  • Have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Willing to work with adults with varying styles and cultural backgrounds for a minimum of 3 hours per week for 6 months.
  • Have experience teaching.  In addition to instruction, be able to prepare lesson plans and gather materials as needed.
  • Record instructional time and maintain communication with The Literacy Center throughout the tutoring period.
  • Willing to participate in monthly professional development opportunities.

Classroom Assistants work directly with our paid teaching staff to deliver curriculum to our enrolled students.  The Job Description and Expectations for this role include:
