Administrative Professional Training Program

TLC is a key partner in helping our community’s employers meet their workforce needs.  Currently, there is a vital demand for qualified administrative office staff.  TLC offers a training program to prepare individuals for administrative office positions.  These positions will include Administrative Assistants, Office Managers, Coordinators, Executive Assistants, Receptionists, Office Assistants, and other support positions with local businesses, organizations, and agencies.  The program provides instruction for the unemployed, underemployed, and career changers.

The curriculum will include the following:

    • Clerical Skills (Filing, Inventory, Sorting & Delivering Mail, Scheduling Appointments, etc.)
    • Communication Skills
    • Customer Service
    • Interview Prep
    • Job Search
    • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Publisher)
    • Organization Skills
    • Planning Skills
    • Preparing for Job Fairs
    • Presentation Skills
    • Problem Solving Skills
    • Professional Etiquette
    • Resume Writing
    • Team Building
    • Time Management
    • Typing Instruction

Additionally, the series will feature Guest Speakers who are HR Professionals/Recruiters as well as current Administrative Professionals.  A Team Building Project and Presentation will help students learn real-world skills.  The program will also include the following: weekly meetings with a Career Counselor, internship opportunities for those individuals who do not have previous work experience or would like additional work experience, and job placement assistance.

Prerequisites for the program include: HS Diploma or GED, background check, resume, eligibility to work in the U.S., English language proficiency, and basic knowledge of computers and typing skills.

Individual career counseling is available to anyone who would like assistance finding employment.  The Counselor develops a custom plan that helps each individual attain their professional goals.

Annual Job Fair & Hiring Events

TLC hosts an annual job fair with 30 employers every May.  Leading up to the Fair, TLC provides Job Fair Prep Workshops that help job seekers properly prepare for the fair so they get the most out of it.  Check our News & Events page in the Spring for the next Job Fair date.

Throughout the year, TLC offers hiring events with individual employers.

Work From Home (WFH) Training Series

Work From Home (WFH) Certification

The Literacy Center has launched a new online certification program focused on working from home in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The live, interactive, instructor-led classes are provided to participants completely free of charge.

The “Work From Home (WFH) Certification” was developed to give participants the tools they need to work remotely. The 20-hour training program features technology tools and software, communication, workflow, productivity and time management, working in virtual teams, compliance and security, critical thinking, and guest speakers with professional WFH experience. Graduates of the program will earn the TLC Work From Home (WFH) Certification.

Introducing a new, FREE 10-hour online training program with live, interactive, instructor-led classes to provide you with the necessary job search strategies to find a Work From Home (WFH) job.  Learn where to find WFH jobs, how to customize your resume and cover letter, and how to prepare for a virtual interview.
