Mission Statement

The Literacy Center's Mission is to help people of the Lehigh Valley achieve the literacy and English language skills needed to succeed in life.

We will be a leader in community-based literacy education built on innovative, cost-effective services that ensure excellent student outcomes.

Core Values

Literacy, as a common good, is key to success in the family, workplace and community life.

All people have the capacity to learn and should have the opportunity to improve their literacy skills.

Mutual respect is key in our relationships with individuals with different backgrounds and perspectives.

Collaboration with like-minded others should be encouraged as we strive to reach the common goal of literacy.

Honesty, integrity, high professional and ethical standards, and responsible stewardship of funds and other resources will be the basis upon which we make decisions.

The Literacy Center is a non-profit agency dedicated to high-quality, neighborhood-based literacy education that improves the quality of life for our students and their communities.

Services are provided at no cost to students. The Literacy Center’s programs are supported by funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (Bureau of Adult Basic and Literacy Education), Lehigh County, the City of Allentown, United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley, as well as private foundations and donors.
